Ira Levin is Gone. Who’s that Younger Better Looking Version of Ira Levin?

Okay so that’s a pretty weak joke, the punch line being that it’s the Stepford Ira Levin. Okay so no jokes about him sending a Stepford Ira to hell and a Stepford Ira to heaven to find out what he liked better. Which brings up Ira arriving right behind Norman Mailer. They may be able pick up some cute little angels and also keep the cute and compliant for ever.

Ira also wrote Rosemary’s Baby, which was pretty scary and the Boys from Brazil which was very scary, especially the movie with Gregory Peck. I never expect to see Gregory Peck play anybody other than Atticus so the madman Mengele  turn was very upsetting. I’m still upset.

Ira was a genre blender and had a hit with his Broadway play Deathtrap which is a blend of comedy and thriller.

All kidding aside it’s sad to see some of the contemporary masters leave us, that makes the world a slightly poorer place, but it does open up room on the book shelves.
